Safer to handle
Unlike conventional gel type chafing fuel, Lumea Wick Chafing Fuel is spill-proof and no fuel will spill out of the canister. In contrast, fuel inside gel type canister is exposed and direct contact of it could be hazardous to health. Lumea Wick Chafing Fuel has a flame that is highly visible, as compared to a less visible flame with gel fuel, and hence, fewer chances for mishandling. In addition, our canister body doesn’t overheat during burning. Gel type fuel canister could become very hot and dangerous if touched accidently.
Safer to store and transport*
Lumea Wick Chafing Fuel is made of Diethylene Glycol, a liquid which is in the same non-flammable category as vegetable oil. It is completely safe to store and transport. Alcohol based gel fuel has very low flash point (about 13˚C vs. liquid fuel of over 120˚C), and is classified as dangerous goods (DG). Costly fire-proof storage and means of transport are required to comply with fire regulations.

Better quality
Lumea Wick Chafing Fuel is completely odorless as compared to gel fuel which can emit a strong and unpleasant alcohol smell, potentially masking the food aromas. Low quality gel fuel could have unpredictable burn performance, such as sparkling and spitting of fuel bits. Our concealed liquid fuel is made of high quality fuel and is free of such issues. All our products comply with EU and US safety regulations. Quality and safety go hand in hand!
Better value
Due to faster burn rate and evaporation rate, most available gel type fuel has a maximum burn time of around 2 hours, while our liquid fuel comes in 4- and 6- hour choices. Comparatively, our liquid fuel per hour cost is lower. Also, longer burn hours mean less replacement and hence, labor saving and less disruption of keeping the food at the food-safe temperature*. Lumea Wick Chafing Fuel is equipped with plastic re-sealable cap for reuse without loss of fuel. Every last drop of fuel can be consumed. Gel type fuel tends to evaporate fast as soon as the canister is open. Relighting during reuse could prove to be difficult.
*Food-safe temperature is 60˚C |
